Four consecutive weeks, beginning Saturday 2nd May 2026, 9am-12pm.
If you've always wanted to learn how to make a patchwork quilt, then this is a great place to start! Join Aileen and begin cutting out and assembling your first throw-quilt. Great for cosying up on your sofa, or use themed fabric if it's a gift. Either way, you will learn all of the core skills in planning, assembling, binding and finishing a quilt, which you can apply to your future quilts!
IMPORTANT:
Please check here before booking as once purchased, tickets are non-refundable.
SUITABILITY:
This is a great course if you're fairly new to sewing or have never made a quilt. You do need a little experience in threading up a machine and sewing in a straight line as we don't go through those basics in this class. If you have never sewn before, it's best to try our beginner's class first.
This class is suitable for adults only, age 16+.
WHAT'S INCLUDED:
- Professional tuition by Aileen
- Patterns & info so that you can make the project again
- Use of our Janome digital sewing machines and studio equipment
- Endless encouragement and advice!
WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO BRING:
- Six different fat-quarters of quilt-weight cotton fabrics. You can buy fat quarters from any reputable fabric shop, they usually measure about 55cm x 50cm. If you are using fabric offcuts and large remnants, please trim your fabric before coming to class so that it's roughly the size indicated, and 6 different prints or colours. If you have any doubt, please pop into the shop or get in touch before the first class so that we can help you out.
- You will be advised of further fabric requirements at the first class as we discuss quilt construction and types of material/wadding/binding.
- Machine-sewing thread (sew-all polyester thread or quality cotton is recommended).
- Basic sewing kit (bobbins, fabric scissors, tape measure, seam ripper, pins etc.)
- Bring a notebook to jot down measurements, instructions and any future fabric requirements.
STUDIO ACCESS:
We are delighted to be able to welcome you to our refurbished studio! It is accessed from the main shop down a flight of stairs from the shop with alternative access direct to the basement for anyone requiring an entrance without steps. If you do have any accessibility needs or questions, please let us know in the comments when you book or drop us an email.
When attending any class, we will meet you at the shop front door 10 minutes before the start time. If you are running late and arrive to a closed front door, please go to the side alley (Wilson's Close) to the side entrance (with the bright pink door!) and ring the doorbell.
